Location: Flexible within the DC-metro area (must be able to regularly commute within the DC metro area) **Candidate must reside in the DC-metro area**

SUMMARY

Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay) is an accredited not-for-profit institution of higher education serving thousands of educators from across the country, from pre-service teachers to system-level leaders. As part of the Teacher Preparation team, the Clinical Practice Director, DC serves as the instructional leader for enrolled students in teacher preparation programs across the District of Columbia. Reporting to the Department Chair of Clinical Practice, this faculty leader advances Relays mission by setting and leading the vision for student success and instructional partnerships in DC. The Director also plays a key cross-functional leadership role, ensuring compliance with state standards and contributing to national projects as part of a team of clinical practice directors.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include:

Teaching Responsibilities (30%):

  • Teach up to 50 students per section, with a maximum teaching load of 9 graduate-level credits per term (schedule may vary by term).
  • Observe and support students virtually throughout the academic year.
  • Teach and /or observe virtually throughout the day, potentially two nights a week, and no more than four Saturdays a term.
  • Offer regular office hours and collaborate with student support services to proactively address academic or programmatic issues.
  • Participate in in-person instructional or recruitment events as required (e.g., by state or grant-funded programs)
  • Lead local and institutional projects aligned with DC initiatives and Relays strategic plan, as directed by the Dean of Clinical Experience.
  • Maintain regular communication with school partners to ensure student progress and support program completion (e.g., progress updates, advisory boards, mentor coordination).
  • Partner with national clinical practice leaders to ensure DC mentor teachers receive high-quality training, including sharing training calendars, tracking participation, and facilitating 12 sessions per term.
  • Ensure open line of communication and consistent up-to-date knowledge regarding state educator preparation program regulators and teacher licensure agencies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to local and state educational agencies to ensure timely and accurate communication on policy updates, compliance expectations, and institutional reporting.
  • Audit student progress toward licensure and certification (e.g., coursework, assessments, fieldwork), and partner with internal teams to remove barriers and drive student success.
  • Lead training and ongoing communications to ensure faculty and clinical partners understand and meet local/state EPP policies and requirements.
  • Supervise and coach full time and part time clinical practice faculty (e.g., Professors, Field Supervisors, Adjunct Faculty).
  • Support faculty development through check-ins, observations, coaching, and formal performance reviews.
  • Lead the change management and implementation of new systems or processes assigned to the team.

Institutional Service (5%):

  • Serve the institution through committee, working group, and/or board membership.

QUALIFICATIONS

First and foremost, the Clinical Practice Director, DC must share the Relay communitys commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. This includes providing teacher preparation programs that set novice teachers up to succeed in the classroom from day one; leadership programs that train new and veteran school and district leaders to best serve their school communities; and teacher-facing professional education that provides ongoing learning to educators. Additionally, for this position were looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of work experience and a Graduate degree (masters and/or doctorate) in a relevant educational field
  • Be available to teach and/or observe virtually throughout the day, two nights a week, and no more than four Saturdays a term
  • Classroom teaching experience at the elementary, middle, or secondary level and experience observing, coaching, and developing elementary, middle, or secondary level teachers
  • Strong project management skills paired with the ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources
  • Demonstrated design and/or teaching experience with online coursework
  • Effective interpersonal skills and experience developing collegial working relationships with diverse populations

  • Deep understanding of the DC educator preparation landscape in the state
  • Active involvement in national organizations in the field of education

COMPENSATION

Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports our ability to recruit and retain a diverse and talented team. As we make decisions about compensation, we will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. The salary range for this role is $100,116-$120,139. New hires will be offered a salary at the starting point of the range, $100,116 , to allow for an equitable starting salary process and continual salary growth during an employees time at Relay GSE.

  • Relay does not currently differentiate starting salary offers based on years of experience,
  • All staff salaries will be capped at the salary range maximum, and
  • Relay does not negotiate salary offers.
